ONSEN

Natural hot springs (onsen) are numerous and highly popular across Japan. Every region of the country has its share of hot springs and resort towns, which come with them.
There are many types of hot springs, distinguished by the minerals dissolved in the water. Different minerals provide different health benefits, and all hot springs are supposed to have a relaxing effect on your body and mind.
Hot spring baths come in many varieties, indoors and outdoors, gender separated and mixed, developed and undeveloped. Many hot spring baths belong to a ryokan, while others are public bath houses. An overnight stay at a hot spring ryokan is a highly recommended experience to any visitor of Japan.

Japan`s National Sports

aSumo (相撲 sumō?) is a competitive full-contact sport where a wrestler (rikishi) attempts to force another wrestler out of a circular ring (dohyō) or to touch the ground with anything other than the soles of the feet. The sport originated in Japan, the only country where it is practiced professionally.

                        Mt. FUJI in JAPAN

(Local Name: Fuji-san) Mount Fuji is the highest peak in the Fuji volcanic chain in central Japan and Japan's highest and most beautiful mountain. Its regular form has been celebrated since early times in poetry and painting, for example in the verses of Yamabe Akahito (8th C) and the series of woodcuts, "Views of Fuji" by Hokusai (1760-1849). The very symbol and emblem of Japan, it can be seen on clear days from as far away as Tokyo. It lies within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.

The correct Japanese name for the mountain is Fuji-san; the usual English form, Fujiyama, is not commonly used in Japan. In early times it was revered as a sacred mountain, the home of the gods, and from the 12th C Buddhist

Geisha

A maiko and two geiko during a dance performance at an ochaya in Gion

Geisha (or geiko in Kyoto dialect) are professional entertainers who attend guests during meals, banquets and other occasions. They are trained in various traditional Japanese arts, such as dance and music, as well as in the art of communication. Their role is to make guests feel at ease with conversation, drinking games and dance performances.

Gion's Hanami Koji (left) and Pontocho (right)
Geisha can be found in several cities across Japan, including Tokyo and Kanazawa, but the former capital of Kyoto remains the best and most prestigious place to experience geisha, who are known there in the local dialect as geiko. Five major geiko districts (hanamachi) remain in Kyoto. Four of them, Gion Kobu, Gion Higashi, Miyagawacho and Pontocho, are located in or around the Gion district in central Kyoto, while the fifth, Kamishichiken, is located near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.

Message from the President of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO)

On behalf of the Japanese people, I would like to express our most sincere gratitude towards the material and emotional support that we received from all over the world following the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. On behalf of the Japanese travel industry, I would especially like to say thank you to all the assistance provided by the tourism industry partners from all over the globe.
After the earthquake, our country has come together, working rapidly in the affected areas towards a quick recovery. With the strenuous efforts of various personnel, we have made good progress towards the reconstruction of our transportation infrastructure.
Moreover, many top officials from various tourism industry partners around the world have visited Japan to see Japan’s famous tourist sites and offer encouragement. We have also exchanged honest opinions and received positive suggestions from government officials of different countries at various events, such as the Japan-China-Korea Trilateral Tourism Minister’s Meeting in Kangwon-do, South Korea and at the Japan-U.S. Tourism Export Expansion Conference in San Francisco, U.S.A. We are greatly encouraged by this support, and we believe that we can only respond to this support and solidarity by working diligently towards the goal of recovery.
In response to this support from our friends all over the world, Japan has developed the following strategies and projects –some of which are being implemented immediately.
The next step will involve promoting Japan tour offerings so that travelers will know about them.
Japan is a country with four distinctive seasons, blessed with beautiful nature, world heritage sites, rich culture and respected traditions. At the same time, these all co-exist together with modern high-tech attractions and pop culture. We encourage you to visit our country, and we look forward to welcoming you with omotenashi -our traditional spirit of hospitality.
Sincerely,
Tadatoshi Mamiya, President
Japan National Tourism Organization

      !!! THANK YOU WORLD !!!

PROSPER CO. LTD

The temple is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Founded in the early Heian period, the temple's original contructions date back to 798, with its present buildings constructed in 1633 during a restoration ordered by Iemitsu Tokugawa. The temple takes its name from the waterfall within the complex, which runs off the nearby hills. Kiyomizu means clear water, or pure water.
