Reserved with strangers but amiable with those he knows, the Japanese Chin, or Japanese Spaniel, is loving and responsive to all forms of affection. Anxious to please they take reprimand to heart and owners should be aware of their sensitive nature when disciplining.
Being a short-muzzled breed, they are susceptible to breathing difficulties and owners should be watchful during play or extremes in heat. This breed makes a great companion for singles and urban dwellers as long as they are exercised and socialized on a regular basis.
'Pillow Pup' would be a fine nickname for the Japanese Chin.
