DWARF JAPANESE MAPLE!!!
The dwarf Japanese maple is a beautiful tree that is native to locations such as Japan, Korea, and China.  However, today you can find them in gardens throughout America.  They are often enjoyed because of the wonderful shape of their leaves and the colors that they produce.  The shape of the tree may resemble an upside down pyramid when it is young.  This simply adds to the character of the tree, making it more exciting.
The Japanese maple has many different cultivars that produce trees ranging in sizes, colors and shapes.  This is where the dwarf Japanese maple falls.  Each cultivar may have its own characteristics that are seen at different times.  For example, one type of tree may bloom in the early spring while another is not going to bloom until early summer.  The colors that each tree is going to produce is also going to be different based on the particular tree that you have purchased.  If you are particular about the colors that you want and when you want to be able to enjoy them, you will want to explore all of the Japanese maples that are available.  Then determine if the Japanese maple is going to be the best fit for you and your garden.
The red leafed cultivar is one of the most popular in the United States.  The cascading green shrub form of the Japanese often comes in second.  This type is also enjoyed by individuals that love the bonsai tree as many Japanese maple trees can be successfully grown in pots and groomed to your liking.  The ‘ao ba jo’ is a dwarf Japanese maple tree that is one of the more popular cultivars.  The foliage of this tree is often seen in the summer months and the leaves are a bronze-green color.  Another popular from is the ‘hupp’s dwarf”.  This is generally used as a shrub because of its size and its small dense leaves.
You need to be fully aware of the type of Japanese maple you are purchasing because their needs may vary depending on the type you are going to plant.  Some of them enjoy full sun while others thrive in partial shade.  However, they are all very versatile as they will adapt just about anywhere and make a wonderful addition to your garden.  You are going to want to select a location for your dwarf Japanese maple that has well drained soil.  Talk to your nursery staff about fertilizing your tree.  You do not want to over fertilize it because you may damage the tree.  It is best to find out what type of fertilizer they recommend and how much you should give your tree.
