IKEBANA

"Ikebana" is from the Japanese ikeru (生ける?, "to place, to arrange, life, birth") and hana (?, "flower"). Possible translations include "giving life to flowers" and "arranging flowers"

Approach

More than simply putting flowers in a container, ikebana is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together. Contrary to the idea of floral arrangement as a collection of particolored or multicolored arrangement of blooms, ikebana often emphasizes other areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis toward shape, line, form. Though ikebana is a creative expression, it has certain rules governing its form. The artist's intention behind each arrangement is shown through a piece's color combinations, natural shapes, graceful lines, and the usually implied meaning of the arrangement.
Another aspect present in ikebana is its employment of minimalism. That is, an arrangement may consist of only a minimal number of blooms interspersed among stalks and leaves. The structure of a Japanese flower arrangement is based on a scalene triangle delineated by three main points, usually twigs, considered in some schools to symbolize heaven, earth, and man and in others sun, moon, and earth. The container is a key element of the composition, and various styles of pottery may be used in their construction.

Origins

The Japanese art of flower arrangement can be traced back to the sixth century when Buddhism was introduced to Japan. The offering of flowers on the altar in honor of Buddha was part of worship. Ikebana evolved from the Buddhist ritual of offering flowers to the spirits of the dead. The first classical styles of Ikebana started in the middle of the fifteenth century; the first students and teachers of Ikebana were Buddhist priests and members. As time passed, other schools emerged, styles changed, and Ikebana became a custom among the Japanese society.

Suzuka Circuit

Suzuka International Racing Course (鈴鹿サーキット Suzuka Sākitto?), Suzuka Circuit for short, is a motorsport race track located in Ino, Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, Japan and operated by Mobilityland Corporation, the subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd..

Suzuka is one of the oldest remaining tracks of the Formula One World Championship, and so has a long history of races as venue of the Japanese Grand Prix. Its traditional role as one of the last Grands Prix of the season means numerous World Championships have been decided at the track.

The track layout as of 2005

Michael Schumacher's car being carried after retiring from the 2006 Japanese Grand Prix
Suzuka was dropped from the Formula One calendar for the 2007 and 2008 seasons in favour of the Toyota-owned Fuji Speedway, after the latter underwent a transformation and redesign by circuit designer Hermann Tilke. Suzuka and Fuji were to alternate hosting the Japanese Grand Prix from 2009. However, after Fuji announced on July 2009 that it would no longer be part of the F1 calendar, Suzuka signed a deal to host the Japanese Grand Prix in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The circuit closed for a year in order for the renovation to make it F1-compliant for 2009, with the last major event held on November 18, 2007, although some annual events (for instance, the Suzuka 8 Hours and 1000km Suzuka) were still held. The track held a re-opening day on April 12, 2009.
Suzuka also hosts other motorsport events including the Suzuka 1000km endurance race. Previously a part of multiple GT racing series including the now defunct Group C class of the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship, the Suzuka 1000 km as of 2006 is now a points round of the Super GT series, and is the only race of such length in that series.
Another major motorsport event is the Suzuka 8 Hours for motorcycles, which has been run since 1978. This event usually attracts big name riders and with the exception of 2005, due to the importance of the big name manufacturers involvement, the FIM ensures that no motorcycle races clash on the date.
NASCAR organized the NASCAR Thunder 100, a pair of exhibition 100-lap races on the East Circuit, a 1.4 miles (2.3 km) layout which utilizes the pit straight and esses, before rejoining the main circuit near the Casio Triangle. The cars were Sprint Cup Series and Camping World West Series cars and the field was by invitation for the two races, run after the 1996 and 1997 seasons. The 1996 event was marred by tragedy when during practice, pace car driver Elmo Langley died of a heart attack in the Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car at the esses during an evaluation run. During qualifying for the 1997 race, rain caused Goodyear to use rain tires on Sprint Cup cars for the first time in the modern era.
It was announced on June 21, 2010 that Suzuka Circuit would host the Japan round of the 2011 WTCC season instead of the Okayama International Circuit.

In August or July of every year, there is a ceremony to honor the spirits of Japanese ancestors called 'Obon'. It is a tradition to send off their ancestors' spirits with Toro Nagashi (floating lanterns), lit by a candle inside and floated down a river to the ocean.

Glowing Mushroom

GLOWING MUSHROOM

 IN

JAPAN RAINY SEASON

June is the starting month of a rainy season in Japan which usually last until the mid of July. The season is greeted as tsuyu (or baiyu), literally means “Plum rain” as it coincides with the season of plums ripening. The rain is caused by the collision of cold northern and warm southern air winds, which resulted in a relatively bad weather for several weeks.

Thanks to the rain bioluminescent (glow in the dark) mushroom can sprout itself from native broadleaf forests in Japan. These glowing ghostly green mushrooms are called, ‘Mycena lux-coeli’ or heavenly light mushroom. The locals call it ‘shii no tomobishi-dake’, means chinquapin glow mushrooms as you can usually find them on fallen Chinquapin tree.
They thrive in humid environment in the rainy season of Japan and would typically last for within that period only. The caps of the mushrooms can grow 1 to 2 cm wide in diameter if enough water are provided.
The reason to why they would glow and other won’t is because it contain an enzyme known as luciferese. When this enzyme is oxidized, it will emit energy in the form of light, which causes organisms containing it to glow.

Location
For a long time they were thought to exist only on tiny Hachijo-jima island but later in 1995 mycologists discovered the same mushrooms growing in the rural area of Susami-chi in Wakayama Prefecture, Kii Peninsula and Kyushu too.
So, if you’re in Japan this rainy season try to find the chance to looks at these mushrooms in the dark night as you switch off your flashlight while hiking to one of the location above. Oh, don’t worry too much on the rain although it got more than in other months it’s not so often you’ll get hit according to the weather chart.
Thoughts
Wouldn’t it be awesome to have some around your home to act as a light source at night? With your modern interior designed home of contrasting colors. It can definitely beat your multipurpose squid lamp (if you have one).

Ajisai - hydrangeas

spring, rainyday, hydrangea, ajisai, snail, katatumuri/free downloadable free material
RAINY DAYS
It is now the rainy season in Japan. It can be very gloomy when it rains all day, every day. The hydrangea has come to symbolize the rainy season in Japan. I think hydrangeas look very pretty in the rain and seeing them makes the gloomy feeling go away during the long dark days. There are several areas in Japan that grow many varieties of hydrangeas and during the rainy season they are a tourist attraction. Check out "Where to view Ajisai in Japan."

Meigetsuin-Meigetsu is known as "ajisai temple" with over 2,000 ajisai. Most of them are blue ajisai.
Mimurotoji Temple Ajisai Garden-It's one of the best ajisai spots in Kyoto. There are over 10,000 ajisai.
Ohirasan Jinja Shrine-There are about 2,500 ajisai trees along the front approach to the shrine.
Hondoji Temple-There are about 30,000 ajisai of over 40 varieties in the temple grounds.
Shimoda Ajisai Matsuri-There are more than 150,000 ajisai trees in the park.

Osaka Fumin-no-mori (Osaka Prefectural Nature Parks)-Nukata-enchi is located near the summit of Mt. Ikoma and is a popular hiking destination.
